Piper is a Cavapoo and our newest (and possibly most popular) team member at Miller Prosthetics & Orthotics. She was born with only three legs, but you’d never know it—she’s full of energy, curiosity, and a lot of love to share. Since joining us, Piper has quickly become a symbol of resilience and joy for our patients, especially those dealing with limb loss.
We are so fortunate that Piper found her way to us. She was born in Easley, South Carolina, and her breeder, Breanna Wickhan, shared a post about her available adoption on an amputee support group page. One of our own amputee members Crystal, saw the post and passed it along to me. I applied, went through the interview process, and we were thrilled to be chosen to adopt this sweet girl.
At just 10 weeks old, on April 5th, I flew to Charlotte and drove an hour to meet Breanna and pick up Piper. She was a tiny bundle of joy—though not a big fan of the car ride to the airport, she did wonderfully on the plane and settled into her new home in Belpre, Ohio right away.
Piper now comes to work with us regularly and truly lights up the room. Whether she’s greeting patients at the front desk, quietly sitting with someone during a fitting, or showing off by balancing on her two back legs, she brings comfort and connection in a way only a dog can.
She reminds us every day that mobility challenges don’t define a person—or a pup. We’re proud to have her as part of our team and excited to share her journey with you.
Follow along as she grows, makes new friends, and helps us show the world what strength and spirit really look like.
